About Me And My Fascination With The Brain

Hi, my name is Tina and I’m fascinated about the brain. I am married to Melvin, and we have just celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary. Together we have two grown up children and blessed with three grandchildren. I need to tell you that I have experienced my own traumas in life. Even though I did not cope as well as I would have liked, I need to tell you that I have grown through them, making me the person I am today.

In 1999 I started my mental health nursing journey and what an experience it has been. The journey through time has been filled with wonderful experiences,

challenges, extreme highs and lows. This has helped to shape and define me in my growth to help others. At 62 years of age, I’ve accumulated a wealth of knowledge and developed numerous skills over the years. Rather than considering retirement, I find myself in what I affectionately call the “pre-retirement warm-up phase.” During this stage, my passion remains unwavering. I want to actively guide individuals toward realizing their full potential.

Why Learning About The Brain Matters To Me

Helping others has always been my passion, next to learning about the brain. When people come to see me, they often say things like “My brain just needs a good wobble”. I then explain that the brain sometimes communicates to us that things are wrong and that it wants our help to sort it out. I believe that symptoms of the mind and body are important, messages communicating that something needs addressing.

About the brain, it does not need to be a puzzling enigma it can be our friend. When we know how to be with it, we can get the very best from all the incredible, remarkable resources that it has to offer. The space between our ears is the place where our minds play, possibly the most important place to all of us because it regulates the working of the whole mind and body experience.

The brain is not just a squishy mass inside our skulls; it is the epicentre of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By understanding its intricacies, as a mental health nurse it helped me provide holistic care. This is because we are not just treating symptoms; we are nurturing the very core of well-being.

When we grasp the brain’s inner workings, it helps empathy to blossom. We see beyond behaviours, into neural pathways shaped by genetics, experiences, and trauma. For me it is like reading a novel in three dimensions.

The brain is our canvas. Learning about neurotransmitters, neural networks, and plasticity sharpens our critical thinking. We decode symptoms, anticipate reactions, and tailor interventions. The brain knowledge is vital in solution-focused hypnotherapy also and that’s why I was drawn to the modality. Solution-focused hypnotherapy moves with neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself. In hypnosis, we guide clients toward adaptive pathways. It’s like remodelling the house, knocking down old walls, building new rooms.

More About Me And The Brain

Transitioning to become a Solution-focused Hypnotherapist was a deliberate choice. Why? Because it empowers each person to pinpoint practical, achievable solutions by using the power of the brain. Unlike some traditional services, where individuals often get stuck in the problem itself (like archaeologists unearthing bones). Solution focused hypnotherapy looks ahead. In a way we are architects of possibility. By explaining about the brain mechanics, we empower clients, which propels them forward, helping them to overcome their unique challenges. In essence, I’m not just embracing retirement, I’m embracing a new chapter, one where empowerment and growth take centre stage.

I have worked hard to ensure that my approach to helping others is person centred. I believe that undertaking a Diploma training as a Youth and Community Worker in 1997 was the motivator. The key word for me from my training is empowerment, which resonated deeply. I remember a quote that always stuck with me, “You can help someone to build their life, but you cannot build it for them”. This is a profound truth to me because we can guide, support, and encourage, but ultimately, growth happens through personal journeys. I believe that empowerment has always been my passion and driving force as a facilitator.

As a facilitator, I have witnessed transformational change unfold. It’s not about imposing solutions on you; it’s about creating fertile ground for self-discovery. People themselves are the architects of their change, the ones who lay each brick, shape their destiny, and find resilience in their stories.

Over the past 25 years, I have been a keen learner. Learning to me is not just about acquiring knowledge, it is about nurturing growth, for resilience in order to deal with life.

Modelling

At Wrexham Hypnotherapy, I wholeheartedly embrace knowledge-based modelling, a powerful approach that taps into the mind’s innate abilities to conquer personal, emotional, and habitual challenges. But what exactly does knowledge-based modelling entail?

Well, it’s about weaving together structured frameworks and evidence-backed techniques. Solution-focused hypnotherapy has a well thought out framework. Imagine it as a finely crafted tapestry, where threads of neuroscience about the brain, psychological research intersect with practical know-how.

How this works

Assessment Across Dimensions:

Firstly, working as a mental health nurse I can assess clients across specific dimensions. This is like adjusting the lens on a camera to zoom in to gain an understanding of the unique experiences, fears, and aspirations. Then delving into the workings of the mind, mapping out the landscape of thoughts, emotions, and patterns.

Evidence-Based Practices:

With the understanding of the issue, I can draw upon evidence-based practices. These are not just theories; they are tested strategies. Think of it as gathering a toolkit, a collection of proven techniques tried and tested.

Tailored Strategies:

Now comes the creativity. I tailor the approach to each person. No one-size-fits-all solutions here. It’s like crafting a bespoke suit, meticulously measured, precisely cut, and designed to fit seamlessly.

So, whether it is breaking free from anxiety, rewiring habits, or unlocking hidden potential, knowledge-based modelling guides our journey. And as these techniques are threaded together, transformation unfolds, one stitch at a time.

In conclusion, why I switched from Mental Health Nursing after over 2 decades to become a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist is because it EMPOWERS the person to access their own resources, enabling them with the knowledge and tools to get the very best from themselves and their lives. I can tell you through my own experience as a mental health nurse that solution-focused hypnotherapy approach achieves positive results.
